Hello.
Newstime!
When I started listening to techno and buying records in the mid ’90s, me and my friends were mostly checking out great techno from London, Glasgow, Berlin, Detroit, New York, Tokyo and such major cities. Every now and then we’d come across records released by a homegrown Dublin techno label called D1. Listening to D1 releases by Rob Rowland and Donnacha Costello was really exciting! “WE CAN DO IT TOO!” we thought. That experience compelled me to buy some equipment and to start making my own electronic music ASAP.
When Eamonn Doyle (who runs D1)
rang me up one day in 1997 saying he’d heard some of my tracks on a
cassette and wanted me to come in and work on something in the D1 studio, it was a huge event for 17 year old me. Brain damn near exploded.
If you haven’t heard of D1 Records or want to read more about them, this is a good article: http://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2014/06/d1-recordings-feature
This year it’s D1’s 25th Birthday!
And
to celebrate, they are releasing a 6-vinyl compilation boxset featuring
many of the artists associated with the label since the beginning,
including a ZoiD track (by me, ZoiD) called Twenty Twenty JJ (by ZoiD).
